Christiana Aguilera was born December 18th, 1980 in Staten Island, New York. She first appeared on national television at the age of 10 as a contestant on the Star Search programme, which lead her to star in a Disney channle television series The New Mickey Mouse Club from 1993–1994. Along side other famous artists such as Britney Spears and Justine Timberlake.
RCA records signed Christiana after recording her first single Reflections for the film Mulan. This then lead her to her first album in 1999 which was very successful and included songs such as 'Genie In a Bottle,' 'What a Girl Wants' and 'I Turn To You'. In this album Christianas image is very innocent, younge and sweet and so are the messages and stories within her music. This was due to the target audience she had intended for her music. In the video 'Genie In A Bottle' she has natural make up on, everyday clothes, younge and fun elements like the dance routine and concept of liking a boy. This album is where she got her first grammies and got her name out there.

Further into her carrer she changed her image and produced new material under the album title called Stripped. Which sold over 330,000 copies in the first week. Unlike like her previous album, this one showed more of her raunchy side. Where she started to do photoshots nude and semi-nude for magazine, including the rolling stones. Although this image was frowned upon in the US her work was very successful, with 4 singles reaching number one.
It wasn't just about her music anymore it was all about her performance and image. The idea that she was seen in a sexual way was new to her previous work. Her jeans with holes in - so that her knickers where on show was a typical costume that shocked many fans. The 'Dirty' video with raunchy dance moves also brought out a this new side to her.

In 2004 Christina took a more mature approach with her 'Back To Basics' album. This was seen as a good choice and saw many praises. She soon died her hair to flaxen blonde and cut it short, with bright red lipstick to take a more Marilyn Monroe approach to bring back the 1920s image of Holywood Glamour.
There has always been many close ups of Christina throughout her videos as her image mattered. When it comes to pop genre, many artists are seen as role models and style icons. This nicer image and more mature image is the one her record company wonts to sell. So more coverage and focus is on her in those videos. For example in the 'Candyman' video apart from the men, Christina is the only Female in the video - made out asthough there is 3. Having her image linked with Marilyn Monroe is very key to the message she wonts to give out. As Marilyn Monroe was very famous and very successful.

Christina has been so very popular because of the constrasting looks she has given out aswell as having a strong and powerful voice. She has never portrayed the 'girl power' message like the Spice Girls but given out her own message. She represents women as being strong and able to stand up to what they believe and who they are.
Over her career Christina has been down many paths in finding herself. This maturfe approach seems to be pushing her career along. Currently Christina is working on an album that in her own words is going to be fun and up beat. It has a lot of new/modern work which was influenced when she stayed at tokyo. And has said to have worked with people such as MIA and Santigold. The album is hopeing to be released in November 2009. Will she change her image again?
