Album Cover Analysis of Metallica

Metallica are a heavy metal band from America. There is the drummer Lars Ulrich, rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo.
From looking at the front cover you could tell the type of music would be heavy metal and grungie. Due to the lack of colour, the white and black has connotations of death, especially when there is a shape which looks as though it’s a grave. The band are not on the front of the cover either which means this band already has a fan club and they could tell that this album was from Metallica – they arent trying to get new fans. Also this was there 5th album and have already gained success from those previous to this. Also being in the band its more about the music itself rather then image of the artist which is what you see in hip-hop and R&B artists.
The name of the album Death Magnetic doesn’t make you think of fairys but death, blood, dark and evil. This too reflects there music as being depressing and hard going. Not something you would sit and relax to.
A typical fan would be a boy teenager to around late 20s. the clothes that they wear would be dark like blacks, browns, grey and dark blue. They would be very into music and instruments like drums and quitars. They may even wear make up like mascara and eyeliner. Mostly there skin would be pale. They wouldn’t be very out going and would properly keep themselves to themselevs – just within there group. They would get kicks out of self harming too.
